Electrician
This position is responsible for installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and testing new and existing electrical wires, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. This position must have a California Electrician's Certificate or equivalent. Responsibilities include performing maintenance, installation, modifications, additions, repairs, troubleshooting, and testing of building electrical systems and equipment, such as distribution panels, circuit breakers, power supplies, rheostats, switches, and outlets of all types, fluorescent and incandescent fixtures, lamps, fans, heating devices, appliances, buzzer and bell circuits, temperature and pressure controls, and regulators. Installs conduit, wiring, and cable and completes splices and connections and tests circuits for continuity and safety. Performs routine maintenance, repair, service, and cleaning of high voltage distribution systems including switchgear, transformers, power supplies, constant voltage regulators and systems, and emergency and alternate power systems and circuits. Performs routine operation, maintenance, repair, and service of Emergency Power Generators (EPSS), both gasoline and diesel, Automatic Transfer Switches, and UST / AST fuel storage tanks. Repairs, services, maintains, installs, modifies, and troubleshoots electrical and pneumatic equipment such as automatic doors, kitchen and laundry equipment, and engineering shop equipment. Works with solid state circuits, flexible wiring, and conduit, switches, relays, contactors, photocells, and control panels.

Qualifications :
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10 / 17 / 2025. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements : Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 40 pounds.
Working Conditions : The work is performed both inside and outside. Electricians are sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in hard to reach areas. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave : Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
