We currently have a full-time Residential Counselor - Casa Pacific role at our Casa Pacific site, located in Watsonville. Reporting to the Program Manager, under close supervision, the counselor provides support and assistance to clients in planning and attaining their goals. Special focus will be on housing, physical health, issues of chemical dependency and mental health, stabilization of income, and reentry back into the community. Services are delivered with dignity and respect for each individual resident.

This position is scheduled to work 2pm-10pm five days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a close working relationship with residents in the program.
  • Perform clinical duties, including individual counseling and facilitating house meetings and groups. Assist clients in crisis situations.
  • Supervise daily activities of clients, including performance of daily living skills, supervising chores, mealtimes, and organizing social or recreational activities.
  • Complete intake, assessment, and evaluation paperwork with clients.
  • Monitor and track clients' use of medications; conduct urine tests.
  • Transport clients to appointments as necessary.
  • Communicate with case managers and other service providers about client status.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness in accordance with residential licensing standards and complete household duties such as shopping for supplies and laundry.
  • Maintain clinical charts and complete required paperwork in a timely manner as required by County, State, and program guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field
  • Two years demonstrated supervised work experience in a related program
  • Experience serving populations with mental health issues, co-occurring disorders, or similar populations
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including primarily evenings and one weekend shift
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment with diverse personalities and cultures
  • Ability to model daily living skills positively
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and complete tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid California driver's license and clearance for agency vehicle insurance
  • Fingerprinting for licensing, criminal record clearance and required physical exams
  • Demonstrated ability to handle physical and emotional stress constructively
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English highly desirable
  • Team-oriented with the ability to maintain professional relationships with staff, outside agencies, and residents
