Why does the job exist?
The primary purpose of the position is to provide specialized nursing care and access to medical, dental, optometry, psychiatry, and specialty services in a 24-hour juvenile correctional facility.
How does it get done?
Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.
Who are the customers?
Juvenile clients committed to CYFD custody by the court system.
Ideal Candidate
AA or BSN in Nursing. Experience in Medical / Surgical, Emergency or Psychiatric Nursing. Experience working in a clinic setting with multiple specialties. Familiar with electronic pharmacy software and SOAP charting format. Must have critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve in high stress settings.
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Must possess a current and valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Clinic setting, exposure to Visual / Video terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage. Exposure to contagious diseases, infectious items or trash. Working with sharp instruments and hot autoclave. Continuous reaching, walking and standing. Must be able to lift and carry up to 44lbs. Adjusted work schedules, shift work, on-call, call-back, weekends and holiday.
