Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Tele / PCU position requiring 2 years of stepdown and telemetry / cardiac experience and the ability to read cardiac strips.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care hospital setting on a Med / Tele / PCU stepdown unit32-bed unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with a focus on cardiac and medical stepdown casesCommon patient diagnoses include cardiac procedures, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH / covid bipap, medical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and acute on chronic conditionsNurse-to-patient ratios : 1 : 4-5 typical, occasional 5-6 on nights, PCU overflow 1 : 3Responsibilities include reading and interpreting telemetry strips and titrating drips such as amiodarone, cardizem, heparin, nitro, nipride, lasix, and low-dose dopamineUses Epic EMR systemShifts are 12 hours, day shifts, with every other weekend and holiday requiredFloating to other units as needed, including full patient loads in PCU and medical-surgical as well as helping in ER hold / boarding areasPortable and in-room telemetry monitors are used, with monitor tech support availableProvide nursing care for a range of cardiac and stepdown patients, including titrating IV drips and managing respiratory equipment such as BiPAP and AirvoWork with a team including charge nurses and nurse aides with a target aide ratio of 1 : 10First time travelers are accepted for this unitOrientation consists of two 12-hour shifts at the beginning of the assignmentAny color scrubs are acceptable for the dress codeApproved RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract and must be requested up front; additional RTO will not be approvedRequirements
Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedCurrent ACLS and BLS certifications required, with copies providedMinimum 2 years of RN experience in stepdown / PCU and telemetry / cardiac careAbility to read and interpret telemetry strips is essentialPCU experience required; Epic EMR experience preferredTwo professional references : one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and another from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years, both with employment dates and eligibility for rehireCopy of driver’s license is required for considerationCandidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facilityMay not be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past yearBenefits
