Construction Inspector
The City of Midland is hiring a skilled and motivated Construction Inspector to support our engineering team by ensuring municipal projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. From inspecting water lines and sewer systems to evaluating sidewalks, ramps, and roadways, you'll be on the front lines of city development. You'll work closely with contractors, engineers, utility providers, and city departments to keep projects on track and up to code. Your role will also include field coordination, material testing, and detailed recordkeeping that supports long-term infrastructure improvements. Essential Job Duties :
Physical and Environmental Conditions :
Employee must have the ability to sit, stand, and drive a vehicle to and from work sites. During inspections, the employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing on-site duties. Ability to bend, kneel and climb while inspecting construction sites. Inspection duties will require enough physical strength to lift inspection and surveying equipment regularly.
Required Qualifications :
Basic skill in the use of a variety of machines, including personal computers, printers, calculators, scanners and large document copier are preferred. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record. Employee must be able to effectively communicate with other employees in the work group. Must be able to correctly respond to questions from contractors, surveyors, inspectors, or city staff regarding work performed or applicable specifications related to a design or construction project. The ability to coordinate effectively with other city departments, contractors, and utility companies when designing or scheduling work. Must possess skill to observe, read, and interpret written technical materials and construction drawings. Ability to use testing and measuring equipment. Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent GED. College degree or construction certifications preferred. Basic skills in observing, reading and interpreting written technical materials and construction drawings. As well as basic knowledge of city codes and ordinances and other state and federal requirements regarding utility construction and safety standards.
