Gloucester County Building Inspection Department is Hiring Immediately!

Gloucester County is recruiting for a full-time Inspector I, II, or Combination Inspector to join our talented team of Building Inspectors providing exceptional customer service while working with contractors and the public ensuring code compliance for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and structures throughout our community.

The ideal candidate must enjoy working outside the office and is able to perform technical and skilled inspection work in area of expertise of the building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems during various stages of construction, alteration, renovation and / or repair. In this position, the ideal employee must exercise independent judgment in applying these standards to a variety of work situations as well as exercise considerable tact and courtesy when working with people explaining building related terminology and code compliance issues in a way that helps people understand and move forward with their projects efficiently. This position reports to the Building Official.

Appointments may be made at the Inspector I, II, or Combination Inspector level depending on qualifications, department needs, and budget availability. Levels are distinguished by additional experience and certifications obtained (minimum qualifications listed below).

Gloucester County's Updated Compensation Structure :

INSPECTOR I : $48,693-$60,861

The Inspector I performs residential, commercial, industrial building and structure, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical inspections for compliance with the USBC, County ordinances, and related state laws.

INSPECTOR II : $53,560-$66,955

The Inspector II performs technical and skilled inspection work in areas of expertise of the building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and structures during various stages of construction, alteration, renovation and / or repair.

COMBINATION INSPECTOR : $58,926-$73,653

The Combination Inspector performs residential, commercial, industrial building and structure, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical inspections for compliance with the USBC, County ordinances, and related state laws.

Minimum Qualifications at the Inspector I level. Applicants must :

• Possess a high school diploma / GED
• Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical trades.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment, ICC or DHCD certification in one trade (building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical) for both residential and commercial inspections.
