Data Cleansing Specialist / Business Data Lead

Role Summary :
The Data Cleansing Specialist is responsible for identifying, correcting, and documenting data issues in legacy and external systems. This role supports the cleansing process through both automated and manual methods and ensures data is accurate and ready for conversion.
Key Responsibilities :
Review System Integrator's data cleansing work and provide oversight.
Cleanse data from external sources (e.g., NYC payroll systems, MS Access databases).
Eliminate duplicates, fix formatting issues, correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Provide documentation and scripts used for data correction.
Develop and deliver the Data Cleansing Approach Document, outlining :
Cleansing methodologies,
QA and audit procedures,
Fund staff involvement,
Solution approval process.
Conduct Data Cleansing Analysis and prepare a Data Cleansing / Conversion Audit Report (DCCAR) with :
Types of issues, how they were fixed, number of records affected, before / after snapshots, and benefits of fixes.
Create reconciliation reports between legacy and staging databases.
Support design sessions to understand data limitations and provide input.
Attend internal and joint team meetings related to data design and cleansing.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field.
4+ years of data cleansing or data quality assurance experience.
Proficiency in SQL scripting and data manipulation.
Experience with both automated and manual cleansing techniques.
Familiarity with audit processes and cleansing documentation standards.
Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
