Mechanical Engineer (Stowage & Mounting)

Pay Rate : $45$50 / hour
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and release mechanical subsystems and components for military ground vehicles. This role focuses on LRU mounting, shock and vibration attenuation, radio racks, stowage systems, and protective structures such as brush guards. Depending on project needs, you may also support additional mechanical subsystems, including fuel systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, fire suppression systems, driver controls, lighting, and crew seating.
Key Responsibilities
Design, integrate, and release shock / vibration isolation mounts, stowage solutions, and other mechanical systems for vehicle integration.
Collaborate with suppliers to develop subsystems that meet performance, safety, and environmental standards, including human factors and blast protection requirements.
Apply mechanics of materials, fabrication principles, and material selection to complex brackets, mounts, and welded assemblies.
Perform system decomposition, component selection, and detailed design of custom mechanical and fluid components.
Generate component specifications, key characteristics, and engineering documentation for supplier-manufactured parts.
Support design activities through analysis, tolerance stack-ups, drawing mark-ups, and engineering change documentation.
Participate in prototype builds, vehicle integration, and fit checks, providing hands-on support for testing and troubleshooting.
Conduct failure analysis, implement corrective actions, and support technical reporting and presentations.
Lead CAD modeling and drawing development, ensuring adherence to ASME Y14 standards.
Write and execute test plans, collect and analyze data, and report results to program management.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
10+ years of mechanical engineering experience within defense, aerospace, or automotive industries (military ground vehicle experience preferred).
Proficiency with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup tools.
Experience using NX or Creo for component and assembly modeling and drawing creation.
Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 (GD&T) standards.
Skilled in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and drive results.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience supporting prototype and production builds.
Willingness to travel up to 10% for site and vehicle testing.
Preferred Qualifications
Eligibility for a U.S. security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Experience designing shock / vibration attenuation systems, radio racks, and vehicle stowage solutions.
Background in mechanical system integration on ground combat vehicles.
Hands-on experience with mechanism development, fabrication, and assembly support.
Ability to climb on / off and work around large military vehicles as needed.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime.
Commitment to continuous improvement and lean engineering practices.
