Electrical Studies Engineer

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Studies Engineer to join our renewables team. The engineer will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing utility-scale renewable plants, including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive electrical system studies to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements and seamless integration of renewable assets into the power grid. Westwood boasts a highly experienced team dedicated to providing high-level professional services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with lead design engineers and clients to develop electrical models and studies supporting project design.
  • Create detailed system models representing the plant during design and conduct studies such as short circuit, load flow, harmonics, insulation coordination, and transient analyses.
  • Generate written reports to communicate study results within project timelines.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams and external stakeholders, including clients and engineers.
  • Review others' work to ensure quality before client submission.

Required Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical plant design and system studies.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a power systems focus.
  • Experience with utility-scale renewable energy systems and grid integration.
  • Knowledge of electrical system studies like short circuit and load flow.
  • Proficiency with modeling software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory (preferred), ETAP, PSCAD, SKM Power
  • Tools, PSSE, PSLF, or similar.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and manage relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
  • Positive attitude and interest in team growth.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Preferred Experience

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, WinIGS, CDEGS.
  • Skills in Python and / or VBA.
