The Labor and Delivery Unit (6JPP) is a 15-bed unit with a variety of labor, triage, and recovery rooms in addition to 2 operating rooms and 1 procedure room. This unit serves patients with low and high-risk pregnancies alike, providing care for those with pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, bleeding concerns, and fetal disease among other conditions. Both medicated and unmedicated labor is supported through a variety of techniques with obstetricians, certified nurse midwives, and family practice physicians performing deliveries.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :

• Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming and oral care for patients
• Assist patients with bedpans, urinals and perineal cleansing
• Turn, position and ambulate patients
• Take temperature, pulse and blood pressure
• Enter daily patient record charting in computer
• Perform simple diagnostic / therapeutic procedures (i.e., dressing changes)
• Clean equipment, patient bedside area and nursing unit
• Set up rooms for patient admission
• Transport patients by bed, cart or wheelchair
• Transport equipment, specimens and supplies
• Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit
• Perform basic CPR as required
• Maintain patient confidentiality

Percent of Time : 50% Schedule : 50% Weekend Nights : Friday 2300 - 0730, Saturday 1900 - 0730. Holidays as assigned Location : John Pappajohn Pavilion (JPP) Merit Pay Plan Pay Differentials : Shift differentials for evening and night.
