Summary

Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD) is seeking a Registered Nurse who has interest in working with adolescent populations. Nurses who work in this practice will develop skills in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing and harm reduction strategies. The skills gained would be of great benefit to a nurse who has interest in serving vulnerable communities.

Job Duties

Examples of Duties :

• Provide patient care based upon practice guidelines, community standards of care, and Federal and State laws and regulations.

Provide nursing assessments and interventions including medical, dental and psychiatric screening. Monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response.

Evaluate, monitor and treat drug and alcohol withdrawal.

Carry out prescribed treatments, wound care.

Administers medications and vaccinations.

Provide mental health services, as a member of an interdisciplinary team, to patients.

Respond to emergencies throughout the facility; injury and illness; performs CPR when needed.

Health education

Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule : The individual selected for this position will have a day shift work schedule between the hours of 0700 - 1500, Wednesday through Sunday. This position is overtime eligible and may work outside of the typical schedule to meet operational needs.

Work Location : King County Juvenile Detention Center, 1211 E. Alder, Seattle, WA, 98122. The individual selected for this position will work within the secure perimeter of the juvenile detention facility.

Requirements :

Current Washington State license as a Registered Nurse or Multi-State Licensure.

Documentation of current BLS-CPR for Health Care Providers. CPR / AED HeartSaver courses do not meet this requirement.

Washington state driver's license or ability to travel to sites within the county.

DAJD follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards, which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders.
