Summary / Objective
The Simulator Technician position applies advanced knowledge and experience to solve unusually complex or system problems; those that typically are not able to be solved solely by reference to maintenance manuals or similar documents. Incumbent will implement training plans for Technicians I & II and evaluate their progression. Technician III will document training forms as required. At this level, the incumbent has demonstrated the ability to solve a variety of complex simulator and or aircraft system problems.

Must be qualified, trained, and knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of the C-130J MATS and peripheral equipment.Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems, those typically solved by properly interpreting maintenance manuals or similar documentsAssists in the design of minor hardware system modifications and software programs to stay current with aircraft configuration and to improve simulator operability.Provides technical guidance and training to Technician I & II employees.Conducts quality control inspections and inspect maintenance work performed.Maintains required documentation of maintenance activities.Monitors and tracks the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities utilizing the logistics management database system. (Documenting maintenance activities include but are not limited to work order generation and updates, repair action documentation, issuing, returning, and adjusting inventory, ensuring inventory records are up to date and accurate, and other material control duties as assigned.)Assist students and instructors in the operation of the training devices to include DMO activities (e.g. set up, power-on / off, daily operational readiness testing, initialization, and other assistance as required).Works with Engineering in regard to non-standard situations.Recommend changes based on knowledge and past experience.Uses knowledge of simulator and aircraft systems to interpret advanced technical data.Interprets and works with computer systems utilizing various and multiple operating systems.May be appointed to oversee shift personnel to ensure scheduled preventative maintenance inspections, unscheduled maintenance, and data tracking are performed to specifications.Diagnoses malfunctions of computers and associated equipment and performs operability / readiness tests and repair.Performs systems interface / fault isolation.Applies fundamental troubleshooting procedures in the maintenance of interfaces and peripheral equipment used with computers.Interprets mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics and drawings and makes simplified versions.Monitors and tracks the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities utilizing the Electronic Data Management System (EDMS).Documents maintenance activities to include but not limited to, work order generation and updates, repair action documentation, issuing, returning, and adjusting inventory, ensuring inventory records are up to date and accurate and other inventory control duties.Conduct inventory inspections, update and record stock levels, and report the status, excess inventory, and obsolescence issues to the C-130J MATS CLS Mgr.Monitor and report failure-prone or obsolete parts to the C-130J MATS CLS Mgr. in accordance with program processes.Maintain inventory of incoming parts / supplies and verify receipt of items on requisition or invoice.Receives, stores, and issue equipment, parts, or supplies, and maintains inventory.Stores parts / supplies, package & ship items to requesting activities.Utilize program EDMS to support inventory levels, off-site repairs, transactions, and calibration requirements.Mark applicable incoming parts (IUID or Tags).May be appointed to oversee shift personnel to ensure scheduled preventative maintenance inspections, unscheduled maintenance, and data tracking are performed to specifications.Diagnoses malfunctions of computers and associated equipment and performs operability / readiness tests and repair.Performs systems interface / fault isolation.Applies fundamental troubleshooting procedures in the maintenance of interfaces and peripheral equipment used with computers.Interprets mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics and drawings and make simplified versions.Conducts voice communications on phone, inter-phone and radio circuits.Provides networking and information systems support on training devices and networks.Maintains good relations with customers and ensures information flows within technical organization.Ensure staff compliance with health, safety, security, and local base procedures.Implements basic modifications to existing simulators.Performs other duties as assigned.Competencies
Required skills and abilities to effectively perform this position include, but are not limited to :
Must be highly proficient in the use and operation of test equipment to perform pre- and post-operational test on installed equipment to perform preventive maintenance using preventative maintenance cards and instruction books.Must possess advanced skills necessary to diagnose and isolate malfunctions in electronic systems; align, adjust and calibrate installed training devices; interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic schematics and prepare simplified versions.Must possess advanced skills to perform calibrations, adjustments and tests on electronic equipment; analyze operation, verify discrepancies, isolate malfunctions and replace defective components used in installed devicesMust possess and maintain advanced proficiency in the use of diagnostic programs, interpretation of results, and the use of program listings to isolate faults and be adept in the use of test equipment, repair of micro / miniature printed circuit boards, electro / mechanical systems and devices to include projection display systems, computer controlled motion and electronic control loading systems and computer generated sound systems.Must be highly proficient in the use of diagnostic programs, interpretation of results and use of program listings to isolate faults.Must be skilled at use and operation of test equipment, including “O” scopes, frequency counters, volt / ohm meters and range calibration set.Must be able to perform routine preventive maintenance using maintenance requirement cards and instructional manuals; perform daily system readiness test, pre-operational and post-operational checkouts.Must exhibit high performance and capability to work in a team environmentMust be able to work independently, with minimal supervisionMust be able to drive a forklift, man-lift, K-loader, or other material handling support equipment as required if trained and certified to operate.Strong communication and interpersonal skills are requiredMust be able to effectively deliver oral presentations to management and customersMust have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex word and technical documents / diagrams. Technical College Degree with five (5) years’ experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operation of full flight simulators, or seven (7) years’ experience with no degree. Aircraft maintenance work experience within an Aerospace Repair shop environment and an Airframe & Propulsion license (highly desired). Must meet the minimum education, experience and qualifications of a Simulator Technician II. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Related skill areas should include technical writing and presentation skills. CompTIA Security+ Certification or the ability to obtain.
Work Environment, Programs, and Tools
This position operates in a shop floor environment. Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock from moving mechanical parts driven by hydraulics under high pressure. Will at times be exposed to the following conditions : extreme heat, airborne particles, loud noises.
Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds overhead. Must be able to walk and / or climb stairs and ladder into a simulator or airplane cockpit. Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under the device. Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and its surrounding environment. Must be able to distinguish colors.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This position will be on site at Little Rock AFB and will require adherence to the Government site hours of operation. This position is a full-time hourly non-exempt position, expected to work 40 hours a payroll period. This position may require evening / weekend work and work outside of the Government site hours of operations when Program support is needed. The ability to work overtime is required. Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required.

Must be willing and able to travel. Domestic and International travel may be required.
Security Clearance
DoD Secret Clearance is required or the ability to obtain one.
