Summary
Provides comprehensive music therapy assessment and treatment interventions for patients, families, and community served by Akron Children's.
Responsibilities
- Plans, develops, and implements comprehensive therapeutic music interventions for infants, children, adolescents, young adults, families, and staff. Facilitates group and individual music therapy sessions with inpatient and outpatient populations in a variety of settings, including home environment.
- Responsible for assessing patients and families to determine psycho-emotional and developmental needs to facilitate goal focused music therapy-based interventions to promote adaptive coping strategies.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date charting related to patient participating in music therapy sessions.
- In collaboration with individual divisions / departments, designs and implements music therapy interventions for patients, learners, and staff. Oversees activities of volunteers and learners during group music therapy sessions.
- Facilitates music therapy education for patients, families, staff, and community. Collaborates with faculty at affiliated institutions to provide comprehensive learning opportunities for music therapy practicum students.
- Participates in research, donor relations, and professional collaboration, including participation in multi-disciplinary teams, like Palliative Care, Behavioral Health, Addiction Services, Burn Center, and Rehabilitation Services. Actively participate in the development of evidence-based practice for the field of music therapy and advocate for integration of evidence-based music therapy interventions into patient treatment plans.

Other information : Technical Expertise
Experience in working with children, adolescents, and young adults in individual and group-based interventions is required. Experience working with infants is preferred.Experience with hospital-community collaboration is preferred.Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments and projects.Experience working in electronic charting software (e.g., EPIC) is preferred.Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are required.Research experience preferred.Education and Experience
Education : Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy required. Master's in Music Therapy is preferred.Certification : MT-BC board certification through Certification Board for Music Therapists is required.Licensure : A valid, active license to practice as Licensed Professional Music Therapist in the state of Ohio is required.Years of relevant experience : 2 yearsYears of supervisory experience : None required but experience supervising interns, students, and other practitioners is preferred.Ability to deal with confidential information and / or issues using discretion and judgement.Part Time
