SUMMARY :

Without the need for supervision, performs complex setups and operates conventional, special-purpose, or CNC machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts and / or fixtures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Without the need for supervision, performs the following duties :

• Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, and setup requirements.
• Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
• Calculates and adjusts the machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.  Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or incorrect machining conditions, and adjusts machine controls as required.
• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining, fixture, or programming issues.  Works with management to find potential improvements with regard to tools or program changes.
• Must maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work station while maintaining safety standards and production efficiency levels.
• Keep machine tools clean and in good working order.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee primarily stands to perform work and required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 25lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Majority of work is performed in a normal plant / workshop environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is consistent with a machine shop which is usually moderate. Proper safety training and equipment is provided to employee for the safe performance of required duties.
