Pharmacy Technician-Lead / Specialty Services
JOB SUMMARY
The lead pharmacy technician in Specialty Services will assist leadership in the oversight of the technician team, which functions as a liaison between pharmacy and ambulatory clinics to maximize patient care and satisfaction. Provide patient education, call back, and refill telephone services while tracking patient status through pharmacy clinical documenting software according to available policies and protocols. Triage clinical and access issues to clinical pharmacist when appropriate.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide insurance benefits investigation services
Initial education / training for all new pharmacy technicians
Ongoing training of technician team as procedural, policy, or workflow changes occur
Owns and maintains process to ensure compliance with DSCSA standards
Ensures technician team maintains active licensure
Assists leadership in maintaining integrity of pharmacy systems (patient management system, dispensing platform, etc.)
Assists leadership in ensuring technician team maintains compliant with accreditation standards
Collects technician time off requests and drafts preliminary technician schedules
Utilize clinical documentation to obtain prior authorization approval
Utilize manufacturer hubs to assure REMS and other dispensing requirements are met
Negotiate with payers for first time emergency dispensations when possible
Uses proper cash handling procedures including counting down cash register tills and managing charges associated with the specialty pharmacy program
Properly identifies patient prescription insurance for claims processing
Facilitates medication delivery to individuals and associated clinics as needed
EDUCATION / LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirement :
High school diploma or GED.
Maintains certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
Maintains Kentucky Pharmacy state registration.
Preferred qualifications :
Twelve (12) months pharmacy experience
Prior leadership experience in a pharmacy setting
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
Constantly exposed to blood and / or body fluids and infection.
Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
Frequently required to walk and move about.
Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments / devices.
Constantly required to lift and / or move items up to 10 pounds.
Frequently required to lift and / or move items up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally required to lift and / or move items up to 100 pounds.
Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
