Our client is currently hiring a Licensed Ammonia Seal Operator for their Cape May, NJ location in the Facilities / Maintenance department. The Ammonia Seal Operator will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation and maintenance of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems in accordance with state and federal regulations, including EPA, OSHA, and NJDEP.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
- Operate, monitor, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment (compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, etc.).
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs to ensure system reliability and safety.
- Monitor system performance using SCADA / HMI and make adjustments as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of system operations, inspections, maintenance, and incidents.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose refrigeration issues, alarms, and system faults.
- Assist in preparing for and responding to ammonia releases or other emergencies per facility SOPs.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and repairs.
- Support other facility operations, including HVAC, compressed air systems, and general plant utilities and operations.
Minium Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) :
Valid New Jersey Blue Seal (1st, 2nd, or 3rd Class) Refrigeration License required. Proof of valid New Jersey license is required.1+ years of hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration systems, preferably in an industrial, food, or cold storage environment.Knowledge of applicable regulations (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119, EPA 40 CFR Part 68, etc.).Experience with PSM and RMP compliance programs.Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.Any additional NJDEP or EPA certifications is a plus.Physical Demands & Work Environment :
Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to after-hour emergencies as needed. Day and Night regular shifts are available.Must be comfortable working in hot, cold, wet, and noisy environments.Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.Must be able to work at heights or in confined spaces if needed.Standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
