Job Description

The Department of Biology at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach undergraduate lecture and lab courses in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.

This search will establish a “pool” of instructors if such openings occur during Summer, or Fall of 2025. Applicants may be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the year.

Courses available may include :

• BIO151 Lab : Introductory Biology lab (cells, molecules and genetics); Fall 2025
• BIO102 and BIO102L : The Biological World lectures and labs (non-major survey of biology); Fall 2025
• BIO355 and BIO355L : Genetics Lecture and Lab for majors (fall 2025 and spring 2026)
• BIO320 and BIO320L : Human Anatomy and Lab for majors (spring 2026)

Available courses vary by term. Most classes are held during the day, 2-3 days per week, but BIO102 is a night class. In addition to teaching the class and grading student work, instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, reach out to students with course progress information, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided. All classes are taught in-person on our Minneapolis campus. Each course requires approximately 12-15 hours / week for 15-16 weeks.

The successful candidate will possess both a high level of intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation.

The collective bargaining agreement with SEIU, Local 284, covers adjunct teaching at Augsburg University.

Please note that due to employment law and payroll regulations, we can only employ adjunct faculty who reside in and work from Minnesota or Wisconsin. This restriction also applies to online courses.

Qualifications

Candidates should be committed to student engagement and student success with a diverse group of learners.

Ph.D. or Masters in Biology related fields preferred.

Qualified late-career graduate students will be considered.
