Overview

The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts seeks a certified Court Reporter to support its mission to protect and preserve the rights and liberties of all the people by providing a fair, independent and accessible forum for the just, timely and economical resolution of their legal affairs.

Responsibilities

• Record proceedings in court trials, hearings, and conferences using stenotype or voice writing reporting methods; accurately transcribe the record and deliver certified transcripts in a timely fashion pursuant to applicable rules.
• Read aloud as required during court proceedings; ensure evidence is properly introduced and marked as an exhibit; take dictation of orders and findings of fact and type them for a judge's signature.
• Maintain files, notes, tapes, and records for later reference; respond to inquiries from court personnel, attorneys, citizens, and prisoners; complete activity reports and travel reimbursement forms and submit them timely to the Administrative Office of the Courts.
• Operate in a roving role; report directly to the Court Reporting Manager with assignments across judicial districts as court coverage dictates; position primarily assigned to Onslow and Pender counties.
• Receive standard travel reimbursement and be compensated for transcripts in addition to base salary.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Certification from the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) or the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA) as a Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR); or completion of a court reporting program approved by the NCRA or NVRA and ten years of court reporting experience; or licensed as an official court reporter in another state and five years of court reporting experience.
