Essential Tasks & Responsibilities
Design engaging visual content using Adobe InDesign, Canva, and related platforms for digital and print mediaWrite and edit copy for a variety of channels including newsletters, social media, city websites, internal communications, and media releasesSupport the department's project tracking by logging and updating assignments and maintaining deadlinesServe as backup for media interviews, event coverage, and on‑call communication needs as assignedRepresent the department at meetings and events as a liaison and team participant, including occasional evenings and weekendsSupport High Point City Council meetings and strategic community eventsHelp maintain and update departmental and city web content in collaboration with IT and other staffProvide cross‑functional support to other CPE team members as neededEnsure all content aligns with City branding and AP style guidelinesMaintain records and produce internal reporting on communications effortsPerform other duties as assigned in support of the CPE mission and goalsQualifications
Associate or bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, journalism, marketing, public administration or a related fieldOccasional evening and weekend work is required2+ years of experience in graphic design using tools like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva2+ years of professional writing experience for digital or print content (AP style preferred)Proficiency with office tools including Microsoft 365, project management software (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, or similar), and social media scheduling platformsExcellent organization and time management skillsPreferred Qualifications
Prior experience supporting public‑sector or community engagement effortsComfort with on‑camera or media‑facing interactionsFamiliarity with City Council or other government meeting supportPhysical Requirements
Primarily office‑based with some field work at community or city eventsRequires light physical activity such as lifting up to 20 poundsAbility to communicate clearly in English in both verbal and written formLocation
