Surgery - Cardiovascular Physician

Sumo Medical Staffing is recruiting for an experienced Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Professional for locum tenens coverage in Dover, DE. Starting January 2026 , this role offers a 3-6 month assignment with a competitive market rate and full benefits. Open to licensing new candidates!

DESCRIPTION :

We are seeking one full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide coverage for 4 weekday shifts plus weeknight and weekend call. Schedule includes two 7a-7p shifts and two 7a-3p shifts each week. Call responsibilities include 1-2 weekday calls (Monday-Thursday, 7p-7a) and 1 in 3 weekends (Friday 7p-Monday 7a).

Responsibilities include CVSICU post-op patient resuscitation, responding to stat consults or changes in clinical status, emergent OR cases, nursing and patient calls from home, and weekend inpatient rounding. The position is primarily inpatient focused, supporting cardiothoracic and vascular surgery cases. Candidates must be EVH capable and experienced with open and endoscopic vein harvest and chest tube placement .

EMR : EPIC

Support Staff : Surgeons, APCs, nursing team

Patient Encounters : 10-20 per shift

Certifications : ACLS / BLS

Duration : 3-6 months (starting January 5, 2026)

Requirements :

Experienced Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, ACLS / BLS certified, EVH capable, experience with chest tube placement. Active DE license or open to licensing new candidates.
