Overview Designer role at leading creator of textiles for interiors whose products are sold internationally. Responsible for design development across multiple product categories within an interdisciplinary design studio. Generates original artwork and innovative product while balancing the needs of the business and maintaining awareness of market trends.

Essential Functions Contributes to the Maharam Woven Upholstery category.

Primary Designer for Maharam Privacy Curtain category.

Uses creative and technical abilities to generate original textile designs for mass production.

Guides products through the development process to completion and approval stage.

Works with Product Management to stay current on product sales and consumer trends.

Researches and analyzes the capabilities of manufacturing partners to inform sourcing decisions.

Travel required as needed to visit tradeshows and resources.

Keeps up to date on developments in international design and art to generate relevant product concepts.

Collaborates with resources to develop leading-edge products that surpass industry standards.

Magnitude and Reporting This position reports to the Design Director.

Contacts Inside and Outside the Organization Works with Design Director and Design Manager to establish design and product direction.

Collaborates with Senior Designers in the Design Department as needed.

Coordinates with Manager of Research and Development to optimize and refine design developments.

Works with Product Development Associates to oversee testing, inspect inventory, and plan sampling.

Works with Resource Management and Quality Control teams.

Conveys technical and aesthetic details of design projects to Communications team.

Maintains consistent dialogue with resource designers and manufacturing partners to develop products.

Travels annually with Sales to communicate our creative vision to clients and outside design teams, and to gather client feedback.

Collaborates with leading designers to translate complex artwork concepts in a wide range of styles and techniques.

Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of woven construction, fibers, yarns, and dyes.

Understanding of how to structure woven patterns and draft basic weaves.

Understanding of how to develop textures and patterns for rotogravure and digital print.

Ability to create engineered artwork layouts using hand painting, drawing, and CAD.

Proficiency in Adobe Suite to produce color-separated, indexed files ready for factory production.

Effective communication and strong presentation skills.

Ability to work through revisions and testing issues to final construction and approval.

Strong sense of color, ability to create complex multicolor repeats, and excellent color matching.

Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects.

Ability to make compelling presentations of product to Sales team and clients.

Commitment to continuous improvement, productive thinking, and collaboration.

Teamwork orientation and willingness to collaborate significantly with Design team and cross-departmentally.

Must stay current with art, design, and architecture and integrate awareness into work.

Education and Experience Bachelors or Masters Degree in Textile Design

3-6 years industry experience

A starting compensation range for this role is $80,000.00 - $88,000.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business / organizational needs and market factors. You may be eligible for geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive, and equity awards subject to program rules.
