Overview
The Child Support Enforcement Division of the Illinois Attorney General's Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for its Collinsville office to handle child support enforcement cases and other litigation in several counties in southern Illinois. A strong candidate will have a demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for trial work, and experience handling a high volume of cases.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services in child support enforcement and other litigation.
- Handle personal injury lien recoveries, estate liens and claims, excess assistance recoveries, administrative review actions, bankruptcy cases in federal court, and miscellaneous matters.
- Appear in court several times a week and manage a high volume of cases during each call; conduct formal evidentiary hearings when an agreement is not reached.
- Prepare pleadings and responses to motions, and research legal issues.
- Maintain excellent litigation and negotiation skills, and build good working relationships with court officials, agency staff, as well as interact with families needing child support enforcement services.
- Extensive travel to various counties in southern Illinois.
Qualifications
Licensed to practice law in Illinois at the time of application.Excellent litigation and negotiation skills.Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work with court officials, agency staff, and families.Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for trial work.Ability to travel extensively to southern Illinois counties.Salary : Salaries are commensurate with number of years of practice as a licensed attorney and range from $82,000 to $107,550.
