Horizontal Forging Machine Operator

When your shift begins at our Hotform facility (7034 IL Rt 84, Savanna, IL 61074), you’ll step up to a horizontal forging machine you’ve set up yourself—tooling dialed in, raw material staged, and quality specs in hand. You’ll use an overhead crane to load stock, start the run, and keep a close eye on measurements, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy. Between lots, you’ll perform changeovers, document the results, and keep the cell audit-ready using 5S. If something drifts out of spec, your mechanical troubleshooting instincts kick in to adjust and keep production moving safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Do

  • Set up tooling, operate, and complete changeovers on horizontal forging machines to meet specification.
  • Ensure components meet strict quality control requirements; document results accurately and thoroughly.
  • Diagnose basic issues, perform adjustments, and escalate as needed to maintain uptime.
  • Use an overhead crane to load raw material onto the machine safely.
  • Interpret blueprints and verify dimensions using basic measuring instruments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area aligned with 5S standards.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures; perform other duties as assigned.

Your Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude from prior work or hands-on hobbies.
  • Comfort following and interpreting verbal and written instructions.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and completes tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communicator who builds positive relationships across the team.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use basic measuring tools.
  • Basic computer and math proficiency.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous industrial manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Consistent work history with minimal gaps.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality to support production timelines and team operations.
