About the role :
Brake Press Operators are skilled professionals responsible for setting up and operating brake press machines to bend, form, and shape sheet metal and plate material according to specifications. They ensure precision, quality, and safety in all aspects of their work while supporting overall shop productivity and equipment upkeep. This position will be a evening shift, 3 PM to 11 PM.
Roles / Tasks of the Position :
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and work orders to determine machine setup, tooling requirements, and bend sequences.
- Set up and operate brake press machine, selecting the appropriate tooling, dies, and back gauge settings for each job.
- Adjust machine settings such as pressure, stroke length, and material alignment to ensure accurate bends and angles.
- Load and position sheet or plate material into the machine, ensuring proper alignment and safety procedures.
- Perform test runs to confirm setup accuracy and verify that parts meet specifications.
- Measure and inspect completed parts using calipers, protractors, gauges, and other precision tools to confirm quality standards.
- Identify and correct issues such as misalignment, incorrect angles, or material defects.
- Maintain proper documentation of production runs, part counts, and quality checks.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform basic maintenance on the brake press and tooling to ensure consistent performance and longevity.
- Assist with general shop operations, material handling, and workflow coordination as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Abilities :
Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.Strong understanding of bend allowances, material behavior, and tooling selection.Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, protractors, angle finders).Mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication processes.Ability to identify and correct defects in formed parts or machine setups.Basic computer skills for machine interface or documentation.Attention to detail, accuracy, and safety awareness.Good communication and teamwork skills.Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities in a small-shop environment.Education / Experience :
High School Diploma or GEDMinimum of 1 year of experience operating a brake press machine in a fabrication or manufacturing environment preferred.Experience with CNC-controlled press brakes (Amada, Accurpress, or similar) is a plus.Physical Demands :
