Pharmacy Supervising Pharmacist - Outpatient - Full-Time

The Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor is the "pharmacist-in-charge" as required by New York State Board of Pharmacy. This person fills prescriptions for medications, monitors patient medication therapies, provides drug information, supervises, performs quality improvement, and mentors all outpatient pharmacy personnel. This person also collaborates with pharmacy staff that supports specialty pharmacy workflows that operates within the outpatient pharmacy and ensures compliance with accreditation requirements. In the absence of the outpatient pharmacy supervisor, a staff pharmacist / outpatient may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the outpatient pharmacy supervisor.

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Prepares and dispenses prescription medications and OTC products and administers vaccinations when needed.
  • Communicates with providers to ensure safety and accuracy.
  • Provides excellent customer service through consultative services to patients on proper medication use.
  • Supervises all outpatient pharmacy staff; recruits, interviews and with input from the Outpatient Pharmacy Manager, promotes, disciplines and terminates outpatient pharmacy staff.
  • Administers reports, documents, statistical surveys and other required data.
  • In conjunction with the Outpatient Pharmacy Manager, develops and implements a strategic plan for the outpatient pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of the hospital.
  • Collaborates with Outpatient Pharmacy manager to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements
  • Participates in all committees / functions required by the hospital or Outpatient Pharmacy Manager.
  • Reports medication errors and misadventures into the organization's incident reporting system and provides the appropriate follow-up in collaboration with the Outpatient Pharmacy Manger.
  • Collaborates with pharmacists who dispense specialty pharmaceuticals as a bridge between traditional outpatient workflow and that required for specialty pharmaceuticals.
  • Monitors proper reimbursement from third party payers.
  • Supports the Outpatient Pharmacy Manager in achieving operational and financial goals
  • Provides institutional pharmacy practice experience rotations to pharmacy students with the appropriate preceptor oversight that meets program requirements.
  • Manages pharmacy inventory.
  • Complies with all New York State and Federal regulations.
  • Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.

Required Skills and Experience :

  • Education - Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with either a BS of Pharmacy or PharmD required. Certification course in Specialty Pharmacy preferred, but not required.
  • Experience - 3-5 years of retail pharmacy experience preferred, but not required.
  • Licensure - Currently licensed in the State of New York. Must be certified immunizer in New York.
  • P referred Skills and Experience :

  • Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred
  • Good written and oral communication skills preferred.
  • Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard)
  • May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers)
  • Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

  • Pay Range Disclosure :

  • Standard Rate of $147,929 to $182,644 per year plus benefits
