Position Overview :The Senior Mechanical Engineer serves as the lead engineer in charge of mechanical projects, overseeing design, technical quality, and client coordination. This role is in person in our Hanover, MA office and includes supervision of staff members, managing project schedules, and ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards. The individual will act as the primary client contact for mechanical engineering services and will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design through construction administration.
Responsibilities include code research, system selection, performing calculations, performing load and energy calculations, developing HVAC system layouts, sizing and selecting equipment, writing technical narratives and reports, developing specifications, reviewing shop drawings, and providing construction inspection services.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work on a wide range of facilities including commercial, multi-family residential, biomedical laboratories, healthcare, educational, institutional, and industrial projects.
- Key Responsibilities :
- Lead design of HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, educational, and residential facilities
- Perform advanced load calculations, energy analyses, and system modeling to optimize performance
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, and narratives to support design submissions
- Select and specify HVAC equipment, controls, and distribution systems
- Oversee production of detailed construction documents, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with codes / standards
- Conduct site surveys, attend client and project meetings, and provide construction administration support
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs; provide on-site inspection and issue field reports
- Mentor and train junior engineers and designers
- Stay current on new HVAC technologies, codes, and sustainability practices to bring innovative solutions to projects
- Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 7+ years of HVAC / mechanical design experience, preferably on commercial or institutional projects
- EIT certification preferred; PE license highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, energy modeling, and building codes (ASHRAE, IECC, LEED, Energy Star)
- LEED accreditation and / or other energy-related certifications (ASHRAE, AEE) preferred
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM workflows
- Solid understanding of HVAC design principles, energy modeling, and building code
- Experience in specification preparation, construction administration, and project leadership
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
