JOB DESCRIPTION : MOBILE REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN

Full-Time | On-Site | Competitive Pay | Benefits Available

Position Overview :

As a Transport Refrigeration Technician, you’ll be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining reefer units in line with manufacturer specifications. This is a hands-on role that requires technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems, including starting / charging systems, compressors, evaporators, condensers, electrical components, and common fault codes.
  • Perform leak detection, recharging, soldering, and component replacements.
  • Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on reefer units per manufacturer standards.
  • Source and install necessary replacement parts.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and health standards.
  • Provide on-call support for after-hours service as required.

Requirements :

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality repairs.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clear Motor Vehicle Report to our Driver Fleet Policy.
  • Must be “insurable” according DTR’s insurance company’s requirements (acceptable driving record, age min / max requirements)
  • Must be able to read and write in English, to follow local, state, and federal driving laws and signs and as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
  • ASE Certifications and / or Vocational / Trade-School certification preferred but not required.
  • 1-2 years of Transport Refrigeration Technician or equivalent experience
  • Able to pass pre-employment knowledge / skill test to determine probability of job success and mechanical classification.
  • Proven mechanical acuity and basic math skills.
  • Must be able to read and write in English, as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
  • Must have own tools plus Safety Glasses, Steel-toed shoes, and Hearing Protection.
  • Able to pass a 10-year background check.
  • Able to pass drug test / medical physical exam.
  • Physical Demands / Abilities performed throughout the duration of the work shift.

  • Heavy Work- Exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and / or up to 50lbs of force frequently or up to 20lbs of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including other job-related items.
  • Walking / Standing for sustained periods of time.
  • Climbing – Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using entire body
  • Stooping / Crouching – Bending body downward and forward by bending at the waist, legs, and spine.
  • Balancing – Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
  • Kneeling / Crawling – Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s) or moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • Whole Hand / Fingers – Picking, pinching, typing with fingers and grasping with the fingers and palm.
  • Repetitive Motion – Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and / or fingers.
  • Talking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to others accurately and quickly when necessary.
  • Hearing – Receiving detailed information through oral communication at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Vision – Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading, using measurement devices, viewing electronic devices, assembling, inspecting small parts and / or operating machines and power tools, operate a motor vehicle and determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work performed.
  • Work Environment : Work is performed in a shop; both indoors and outdoors. Activities occur inside and outside and are subject to work environments that are not climate controlled, weather, and hot / cold temperature changes, dirt, dust, soot and possibly mold, loud noise, and ladders to use for high heights. Potential hazards such as moving vehicles, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high places, high heat, and exposure to chemicals, atmospheric conditions (e.g. fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases), or poor ventilation, or a workspace may be exposed to smoke residue, mold and mildew, contaminated water, or other unsanitary conditions as well as being in closed quarters / confined spaces (e.g. crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, attics, etc.)
