Responsibilities
Under general supervision, manages and coordinates the technical activities of section imaging staff engaged in producing ionizing and non-ionizing radiation images for use in the diagnoses of disease or physical disorders.Oversees, assists and instructs Radiology technologists and ancillary personnel in the performance of their daily duties as established by departmental policy and procedures.Flexibility to work overtime as needed. Call is mandatory.Plans and schedules work for the assigned area ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing coverage, space and facilities for performance of duties of technologists.Supervises and provides instruction to technologists and orients new imaging staff. Recommends human resource actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and paid-time-off schedules.Assists department manager in the determination of fiscal requirements; prepares budgetary recommendations, monitors, verifies and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds. May take action to realign actual expenditures to budget.Maintains liaison with radiologists and other physicians and Clinic staff to resolve problems and to advise them concerning technical procedures, techniques and equipment.May work with imaging in producing diagnostic images.Patient Care Assessments : collects information by interview from patient, family, significant other, and healthcare providers; utilizes medical records and radiology requisitions or verbal orders to ensure appropriateness of procedures ordered.Assesses patient condition / status to ensure appropriateness of procedures; intervenes to prevent potential problems / complications; identifies educational needs of patient / family.Patient Care Implementation : establishes effective communication with patient / family; coordinates care with the health care team; follows policies and procedures; educates patient / family for care continuation after the procedure; maintains empathetic and available demeanor; keeps patient informed of progress / delays.Documentation : maintains thorough and accurate documentation in the patient's medical record, including use of radiopharmaceuticals, adverse reactions, and required data for radiographs (patient ID, requisition number, date, factors, RT initials, markers).Clinical Skills : demonstrates required clinical and technical skills, complies with Lahey Clinic policies and guiding principles, supports quality improvement and mandatory education.Maintains customer service standards and participates in departmental quality improvement activities.Must achieve and maintain specialized certification in the modalities practiced; must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts if ionizing radiation is used.Minimum Qualifications
Education : Graduate of AMA approved program radiology technologyLicensure, Certification, Registration : Current ARRT (R) and Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as well as MA DPH licensure if applicableSkills, Knowledge & Abilities : Experience : Requires a minimum of five years of progressively more responsible experience as a staff imaging technologist and two years in a supervisory role.As a health care organization, we have a responsibility to care for and protect our patients, colleagues and communities.
