Full-time Skilled Veterinary Assistant
Salary Range : $19-$23

Farmington Village is a brand-new companion animal clinic that will be opening in January. While we are starting with one veterinarian, our ultimate goal is to growth so we can care for more pets. We strive to create a nurturing, educational, and fun environment for all employees and clients. We are currently looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and quick-learning individual who wants to be a part of making our hospital the go-to for our community.
Summary :
Our skilled veterinary assistants are “jack of all trade” individuals with a variety of skill sets. Experience in the field is required for this position. VAs assist the veterinarian with office visits and all associated tasks all while communicating with clients using their extensive knowledge of vaccine protocols, preventatives, and excellent history taking skills. They are able to manage their time efficiently and possess good problem-solving skills.
Duties will include but are not limited to :
- Provide compassionate care for pets and their people
- Be knowledgeable in areas of vaccines, recommended laboratory testing, sample collection, and able to follow instructions on specialty lab testing including, but not limited to, ACTH stim, bile acids, and LDDST
- Safely and effectively restrain pets for team members
- Dispense medication as ordered and assist in our pharmacy
- Work with electronic medical records and document professionally
- Perform all duties in accordance with government regulations and hospital policies and procedures
- Prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas
- Assist the doctor in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepare patients for surgery; assist the doctor in administering anesthetics; monitor patients during surgery and recovery; administer fluids
- Give injections and administer oral medications
- Perform emergency procedures such as controlling bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, and external cardiac massage
- Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draw blood for laboratory analysis; maintain file of lab test results and ensure that test results are recorded in patient records
- Take radiographs and perform EKGs
- Admit and discharge patients on the doctor's orders. Educate clients on various aspects of animal care; explain dosage / purpose of medications; reinforce the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home; make follow-up calls to clients
- Understand usage and dosage for commonly used prescription drugs including heartworm preventative and prescription flea control products and can readily explain them to clients
- Properly clean all surgical materials after they are used; keep the operating room stocked and prepared for surgery
- Maintain an appropriate inventory of all drugs and medical supplies
- Prepare estimates for clients
- Assist other staff members as required
- Perform other duties as determined by the doctors
- Perform other duties as assigned by the practice manager
