Description :
The Radiologic Technologist, under general supervision, performs radiology procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider.
The procedures are conducted for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
High-quality radiology procedures must be performed according to exam protocol and in a timely manner.
The Technologist maintains the production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
An understanding of radiation dose reference levels and radiation dose monitoring is essential.
Actions to take if the estimated dose exceeds set reference levels must be known, which may include patient follow-up.
Utilization of effective communication techniques to identify patient service requirements is necessary.
The Technologist ensures the correct exam is performed on the correct patient and establishes rapport with patients and others.
Patients and their families are to be instructed and communicated with regarding the test to be performed.
The ability to assess a patient's ability to tolerate the exam is required.
Preparing the patient and area for the procedure involves positioning the patient and adjusting immobilization devices.
Equipment controls must be adjusted to set exposure factors appropriately.
Patients and employees must be protected by adhering to safety requirements and infection-control policies.
Proper sterile techniques must be used when performing invasive procedures, along with maintaining hand hygiene.
Equipment and work areas must be maintained to meet quality and cleanliness standards.
Reporting issues to management or the appropriate department is required.
Assisting in maintaining supplies inventory is important.
Individuals entering the department must be screened according to approved policies and procedures.
Verification and maintenance of relevant documentation such as requisition / chart and patient history are necessary.
Medical imaging records must be maintained in accordance with department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.
The ability to serve as a preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services is necessary.
Call may be required when necessary.
