The mission of the center is to advance the key role that law plays in promoting society's health through robust research initiatives, innovative educational programs, and community engagement. The health law program is both broad and deep, encompassing the many and diverse fields that comprise health law, including core areas of health care regulation, bioethics, public health, social justice, global health and health technology. The Center champions an interdisciplinary approach, integrating law, policy and ethics with subject matter expertise. The health law curriculum is designed to provide all students with a real-world understanding of the complex matters in health and health care delivery. Center faculty continually strive to ensure that the curriculum reflects the ever-changing legal and regulatory environment of the health field.

Position Description

Georgia State University College of Law invites entry-level and lateral candidates to apply for a tenure-track professor position in Health Law to begin no later than the 2026-2027 academic year. A successful candidate will be expected to teach in the health law and general law curriculum, make meaningful scholarly contributions, participate actively in the life of Georgia State Law and the Center for Law, Health & Society, and enhance Georgia State Law's strong reputation. A successful candidate will foster interdisciplinary collaboration across Georgia State University and with external partners in the health and legal fields. A successful candidate will also advise students, helping them develop a professional identity and prepare for impactful and meaningful careers.

Specifically, the College of Law seeks candidates who research in health law with a particular interest in health business, financing, and / or regulation and can teach at least one of the foundational courses required for the Health Law Certificate : 1) Health Care : Finance and Delivery and / or 2) Health Care : Quality and Access. Special consideration will be given to those interested in teaching an additional course in one of the following areas : Evidence, Professional Responsibility, Corporations, or Commercial Law courses.

Required Experience

• Applicants seeking the rank of Assistant Professor should demonstrate a track record or promise in teaching and research.
• Applicants seeking the rank of Associate or Full Professor must have superior academic credentials and a demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service.

Required Education

Applicants should have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school (or foreign equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

3-5 years of legal practice or related professional experience in health law is appreciated.

A criminal background check is required.

Work Hours

Law Academic with a 10-month appointment. Standard work hours to support the required workload of 33.4% Teaching, 33.3% Research, and 33.3% Service.

Georgia State Law faculty may be required to work non-standard hours, including day, evening, online, blended / hybrid, and weekends, as determined by the Dean.

Competitive and commensurate with rank at appointment
