Key Responsibilities

• Conduct coverage analysis to determine billing responsibility (research versus standard of care) in compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations.
• Develop detailed budgets for grant and sponsor proposals in accordance with sponsor and institutional guidelines.
• Advise PIs on budgeting strategies, allowable costs, and sponsor-specific limitations.
• Prepare budget justifications and assist with completing sponsor budget forms and internal routing documentation.
• Interpret and apply sponsor guidelines, funding opportunity announcements (FOAs), and regulatory requirements (e.g., NIH, DoD, private foundations).
• Translate and adapt sponsor- or grant-provided budgets into standardized institutional budget templates for internal use.
• Coordinate with institutional offices (e.g., Sponsored Programs, Legal, Compliance) to ensure timely and compliant proposal submissions.
• Serve as a liaison between PIs and administrative units to gather required proposal components.
• Review draft proposals for financial accuracy and consistency prior to submission.
• Track submission timelines and ensure adherence to internal and external deadlines.
• Provide training and guidance to faculty and staff on budget development and pre-award processes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (required). 25 years of experience in pre-award research administration or financial proposal development. Experience in a university, academic medical center, or nonprofit research setting preferred. Familiarity with federal regulations (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance) and major sponsor guidelines.
