The Surgical Progressive Care Unit cares for critically ill patients requiring a higher level of care. The PCU RN is capable and skilled in managing very complex surgical patients. All patients require central monitoring and frequent monitoring / interventions.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. 163PCU is a 19 bed surgical progressive care unit. The patient population is comprised of acutely ill surgical patients requiring a higher level of nursing care and monitoring. This unit primarily cares for post-op patients admitted to the Abdominal Transplant, Hepatobiliary Surgery, ENT / Plastics Surgery and Ortho-micro Surgery teams. Secondary, this unit manages critical care needs for patients admitted to the Trauma / ACCS / Geriatric Trauma Surgery teams, Orthopedic-Spine / Recon / Hand etc. teams as well as Vascular Surgery and other overflow teams.
