Title Abstractor

The Title Abstractor searches and analyzes public records to find, review, and evaluate documents related to surface and mineral rights ownership. They also produce accurate, detailed reports summarizing research establishing land and mineral right ownership. The position is hybrid and requires travel to Broome County, Tioga County and Chemung County.
Duties And Responsibilities :
- Research titles, deeds, wills, and related documents to establish property ownership
- Use courthouse computer systems to examine property and tax assessment records for compilation of information about a specific property
- Copy or summarize recorded documents, such as leases, right of ways, and judgments affecting specific property
- Examine liens, judgments, leases, plat books, maps, contracts, and agreements to verify legal description, ownership and restrictions
- Create and review run sheets, deed plots, and flowcharts for abstracts and title opinions
- Support preparation of detailed Ownership Reports
- Research and abstract oil and gas leasehold interest ownership
- Submit reports and results from researching liens, mortgages, right of ways, easements, back taxes, mineral, coal, oil and gas ownership, and verification of current surface ownership
- Provide quality research and reports based on client needs and criteria
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications :
3-5 years of experience as a Title Examiner in the Energy (Oil and Gas, Renewable, or Right of Way), Commercial Title sectors, or other relevant experience.Ability to read and understand maps and plansAbility to review complex legal documents to obtain and understand legal property descriptionsAbility to deed plot complex legal descriptionsExceptional communication (written and verbal) skills and a committed team playerSelf-driven and self-motivated problem solverProficiency in Microsoft Office products Word and ExcelWorks well under pressure and meeting deadlinesAble to organize and set priorities, handling multiple tasks in a fast paced and changing environmentMust have a comprehensive understanding of common title issues and curative measuresAbility to learn new computer programs rapidlyCapacity to be flexible, multi-task and maintain a great attitudeMust have a valid driver's licenseCanacre is an equal opportunity employer, committed to a diverse workforce.
