Job Summary

Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers' portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

The Aerospace Space Domain Superiority Directorate, in the Special Programs Division, supports a broad array of Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power missions. We cover the entire threat response chain from the Space Domain Awareness function through the multidomain effects needed for space superiority. These programs include major system acquisitions for multiple ground and space segments, future architecture definition at the data / software / hardware levels, and research and technology development for continuous evolution of space warfighting capabilities.

As the Senior Project Leader (Systems Engineering - Acquisition) supporting Space Systems Command (SSC) in the Space Safari program office, you will contribute to a team that is developing end-to-end solutions and implementing critical space control capabilities. The office supports Space Force by providing rapid responses to address dynamic changes in the operational space environment. Our mission is to deliver space programs on tactical timelines. Our job is to develop concepts, design prototypes, acquire systems, and perform operations. This position allows the unique opportunity to see your contributions impact critical missions in a very short time. You will work on site in the government program office, where you will have frequent interaction with the government and be a member of a tightly integrated team consisting of military, Aerospace, UARC, FFRDC, and SETA personnel.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time , on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide mission trades and concept employment concepts to the leadership of the Rapid Reaction Integrated Mission Delta, Space Safari Branch
  • Serve as principal technical representative to customer, coordinating efforts in the concurrent acquisition and operational planning of tactically responsive satellite systems
  • Act as the integration leader coordinating with senior level specialists and multidisciplinary teams, including ETG and xLab, in the rapid fielding (AI&T, launch integration, launch, on-orbit ops, etc.) of new space vehicles
  • Provide CONOPS requirements to Space Operational Command and other government entities on the implementation of critical space control capabilities
  • Monitor and support resource planning (including budgets and ETG support)
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with customer leadership, capability-delivering contractors, ETG and other program officesupport organizations, including the creation of technical materials and the ability to present to key stakeholders , Space Safari team members and senior leaders
  • Acts as a senior mentor to team members, providing technical guidance to staff in both technical duties and program office responsibilities

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Senior Project Leader (Systems Engineering - Acquisition) :

Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or closely related technical field is required

A minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience with a focus on space systems development is required

Experience in spacecraft development (acquisition, design, build, integration, test, and operations)

  • Experience building and maintaining effective teams and developing good working interpersonal relations with multiple government partners and contractors
  • Initiates acquisition of technical support fromappropriate corporate resources
  • Monitors and may assist in development of budgets
  • Exhibits exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with customers
  • Acts as a senior mentor to team members, providing technical guidance to staff in both technical duties and program office responsibilitiesas well as development insights
  • Capability to identify and mitigate risks
  • Willing to travel to work locations and / or customer sites approx.10-15% (as required)

    This position requires a current and active Top Secret / SCI clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain additional security accesses , which is issued by the U . S . government. U.S . citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

    How You Can Stand Out

    It would be impressive if you have one or more of these :

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field or closely related technical field is preferred
  • Experience in the Space Control Mission area
  • Knowledge of satellite subsystems, including payload, power, thermal, and attitude control systems
  • Experience with satellite procurement processes, including development of acquisition documents (RFP, SOW, TRD)
  • Skilled in ground architecture, space-to-ground communication, and software development
  • Strong aptitude in Space Operations including Launch and Early Operations, nominal operations, mission operations, end of life operations
  • Proven organizational and project leadership skills with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • A current and active Top Secret / SCI clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain additional security accesses , which is issued by the U . S . government, is strongly preferred. U.S . citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

    We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
