Position Overview

HDR NY / NJ Transportation Business Group is seeking a Civil / Highway Project Engineer to work on Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build Projects.

The primary duties include leading teams to produce design criteria, plans, calculations, cost estimates, and specifications for highway and / or civil projects. The candidate should be a team player, collaborative, and familiar with local and national codes, standards, and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery of projects from concept to final design.
  • Work independently or collaboratively within a team.
  • Participate in design meetings ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Mentor and review junior staff work.
  • Coordinate workload and ensure timely, within-budget project completion.
  • Handle project responsibilities including financial aspects, progress reports, and scheduling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in roadway design, including geometry, utilities, drainage, grading, and traffic management.
  • NY or NJ PE license preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation, Inroads, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with local clients such as PANYNJ, NYSDOT, NJDOT, etc.
  • Strong technical skills and leadership in highway and civil design.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to mentor.
  • Active in professional engineering communities.

    • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in roadway engineering design.
  • PE license.
  • Hands-on CAD experience with highways and roads software.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with urban and rural highway projects.
