Job Summary :

The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is non-profit research and grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and polices that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Policy the Government Affairs Associate will cultivate and maintain relationships with policymakers and policy stakeholders on a wide range of economic policy issues.

The Government Affairs Associate will support feedback loops to ensure that the research and expertise of Equitable Growth staff, fellows, and academic network and policymakers informs and is informed by current policy discussions. This role will also distill technical research papers, studies, and reports produced by Equitable Growth staff or members of our academic network to convey research findings to general audiences and create policy-relevant narratives . They may lead or co-lead initiatives such as organizing policy-relevant events . This is a bargaining unit position.

Responsibilities include :

  • Help to coordinate and manage outreach to Federal and state policymakers and advocates on economic policy issues.
  • In collaboration with Equitable Growth's Policy, Academic Programs, and Communications teams, translate academic research on economic inequality and growth into a policy-relevant narrative. Collect , synthesize, and internally share findings from policy stakeholders to help Equitable Growth staff and academic network identify research gaps.
  • Help coordinate meetings and other engagement between Equitable Growth staff, EG ' s network of academic researchers, civil society leaders , and key federal and state policymakers.
  • Assist in identifying Congressional offices, state lawmakers, Federal agencies, and other policymakers for appropriate outreach by Equitable Growth.
  • Update and maintain customer relationship management (CRM) database and other contact lists to enable regular outreach to partners and track the impact of policy engagement.
  • Serve as point of contact for the Policy team's support of the Nonresident Scholars program, regularly attending cross-team meetings, maintaining up to date records, and proactively identifying potential opportunities for Nonresident Scholars to engage with the policy community .
  • In coordination with the Academic Programs team, identify and engage with key stakeholders in the academic community. Consult with Academic Programs and Equitable Growth's network of academic researchers on the policy implications of their work to inform dissemination efforts.
  • H elp inform the development of trainings and other resources intended to support Equitable Growth 's academic network engage effectively with policymakers and civil society stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements :

  • Proven track record of cultivating productive relationships and influencing key stakeholders as part of campaigns for evidence-based public policy.
  • Familiarity with domestic economic policy, government processes at both the federal and state level s , and relevant advocacy and trade organizations .
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to engage with individuals across a broad political spectrum.
  • Experience organizing public and private meetings and events, especially those involv ing complex logistics and / or high-profile attendees .
  • Ability to work independently with supervis ory assistance on more complex or sensitive assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills .
  • Highly organized, with strong administrative skills and attention to detail .
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well on a team.
  • Educations and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience will be considered.
  • At least two to four years of experience working on economic policy issues at either the Federal or state level.
  • Physical Requirements :

    Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer .

    Hybrid Schedule : This role is primarily remote; however, employees are required to report to the office up to five days per month for in-person collaboration. In addition, attendance is expected at occasional company events or team gatherings as scheduled.
