Grounds And Streets Technician I
Hiring Range : $39,658 - $41,640
The Grounds and Streets Technician I is responsible for maintaining the streets and grounds of Town properties and additional Town-managed streets, facilities, and fields. This position involves assisting with construction, maintenance, and repair projects, performing semi-skilled manual labor, and operating power tools and equipment. It is a non-exempt position that requires 40 hours per week, with some work scheduled during nights, weekends, and holidays.
These duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the Town.
Qualifications :
Education and Experience : High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and the ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job such as those listed above. Licenses and Professional Certifications :
Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance techniques; techniques for safe operation of heavy equipment; general maintenance techniques related to area of assignment; basic mechanical concepts; basic plumbing and electrical repair techniques; safety requirements; and cleaning materials. Skilled in driving a vehicle; operating heavy equipment; using hand and power tools; maintaining, repairing, and cleaning facilities; spreading grass seed; removing weeds; transporting and installing landscape materials; mowing and maintaining grass; applying fertilizers and herbicides; operating equipment and small engine maintenance; communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public; able to exchange information clearly and receive work direction as needed. The ICS / NIMS course minimums required for all employees include FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800. Additionally, employees assigned middleand upper-level responsibilities within incident operations may be required to complete additional follow-on courses deemed necessary by Emergency Management and Human Resources staff. Ability to represent the Town professionally and respectfully while interacting with diverse individuals within the workplace and the community.
Working Conditions :
Employee is subject to inside environmental conditions having the lighting, temperature, and noise of an open floor-plan office environment. The employee is primarily exposed to outdoor conditions and may be frequently exposed to weather elements, including rain, wind, varying temperatures, etc. In addition, the employee must effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials, intense heat, electrical hazards, confined or high workplaces, extremely loud noises, hazards of driving, hazards associated with traffic control, and working in and near traffic, and natural and man-made disasters. Work performed in this job may place the employee at risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Physical Requirements : Travel is required to both indoor and outdoor sites to perform the duties described above and attend meetings, training, events, and other activities. Work requires standing, walking, running, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, lifting, carrying and / or moving equipment, pushing and pulling various objects, climbing stairs and ladders, and operating assigned equipment, including motor vehicles. Employee must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. A minimal portion of work is performed within an office environment and may include computer operation. The employee must read, write, and interact with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices.
