POSITION OVERVIEW
The Referee is responsible for enforcing rules, maintaining standards of play, and ensuring a fair, safe, and enjoyable experience for all participants during Parks & Recreation sporting events.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Experience, Education, and Training
- Prior experience playing or officiating soccer or football is highly preferred.
- 1–2 years of officiating experience at the Parks & Recreation or High School level preferred.
Requirements
Must pass pre-employment drug testing and submit to periodic drug testing as required by applicable laws.Must be at least 16 years of age and willing and able to attend any training sessions.Must be able to work evening hours Monday through Thursday starting September 2nd.Must have no felony convictions.Abilities
Strong knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations for soccer and / or flag football.Excellent decision-making and conflict-resolution skills.Effective verbal communication with participants, coaches, and staff.Ability to remain professional, calm, and impartial in high-pressure situations.Ability to manage time effectively and keep accurate game timing.Physical ability to move quickly and stay active throughout the duration of games.FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions
Studies and understands game rules that apply to a variety of sports.Judges gameplay during sporting events to award points and decide results.Observes gameplay closely, makes calls based on the application of game rules, and assesses any required penalties according to established regulations.Ensures teams follow all safety regulations.Monitors times related to the event such as start and stop times, elapsed times, or race times; ensures time requirements are followed precisely and starts and stops gameplay as needed.When available, consults with other referees and / or playback screens to make a final call on a contested play.Resolves complaints or rule infraction claims from participants.Examines and verifies the credentials of sporting event participants.Performs other related duties as assigned.Other Requirements
Environment
Regular exposure to outdoor elements including varying weather conditions.High exposure to noise, dust, and occasional rowdy crowds.Must be able to travel between field locations with ease.Physical
Must be able to remain on feet and move throughout fields for extended periods.May be required to lift up to 15 pounds.Seasonal employment with irregular hours, including evenings and occasional weekends or holidays.
