POSITION SUMMARY

The Creative Director leads the Creative Department and is responsible for the ideation, design and development of internal and external marketing and communication materials and well as brand focused projects—ensuring all work is the highest quality of creative execution and consistent with brand standards. Familiar with a variety of the creative fields, concepts, practices, and procedures—from print to digital. Works collaboratively with others across the organization to develop and execute assorted creative projects. Day-to-day leadership of others, including in-house copywriting, graphic design, video production, photography and outside vendors. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected with hands‑on direction and oversight of the creative product.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide hands‑on team leadership in the execution of creative projects from start through execution. Collaborate with copywriters, designers, project managers, creatives and vendors to obtain exceptional results. Protect brand standards while continuing to develop and push the brand to new levels of excellence.
- Partner with digital, PR, and Marketing team members to foster integration : promotion, digital, social, events, mobile, video and TV.
- Oversee the design and production of marketing assets and materials for print and digital projects using original artwork, photography, type, illustration, and other components as needed, that are consistent with graphic standards and the arts center’s brand.
- Oversee production and localization of supplied / existing marketing assets for a wide range of print and digital tactics for shows and events.
- Art direct photo and video shoots and provide set guidance as needed.
- Source and select outside partners / vendors as needed. Assemble the SOW and review all vendor bids with VP, Marketing prior to selection. Ensure contracted services are delivered as expected. Manage vendor relationships. Serve as a creative partner to external agencies and vendors to provide content input.
- Accountable for optimizing Creative Workflow, streamlining process for faster turnaround, at less cost, without error, at the highest quality output. Utilizes project management software to maintain workload and meet assigned deadlines.
- Work with the CEO and VP, Marketing to develop and implement Creative Work Plan and budget.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree and / or Bachelor’s degree preferred in graphic arts, digital media, or a related field and 10+ years of relevant in‑house or agency experience. Experience should include budgeting / financial responsibilities.At least two (2) years of supervisory experience to include : hiring, training, and performance management.Strong portfolio of work that demonstrates expertise in layout, composition, typography, and general principles of design across many types of media; inclusive of print, digital, web, and email.Proven exceptional attention to detail and visual problem‑solving skills.Knowledge and understanding of adhering to and implementing brand guidelines.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud including but not limited to Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. After Effects is a plus but not required. Familiarity of using a CMS and email marketing platform.Knowledge of photo retouching, manipulation, and editing. Preferred knowledge of photography and video capture, editing, production, and export using industry‑standard software.Proven written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by a portfolio of work.Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to pitch concepts and build consensus around design, campaign and production ideas.Working knowledge of copy right and intellectual property regulations.Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines, to work as part of a team or independently, and to solve roadblocks and address issues. Ability to quickly adapt to changing needs and priorities.SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
