Department Information

The Rifle Correctional Center is a 192-bed Level I minimum security facility, located on a 75-acre site in rural Garfield County in Western Colorado. The facility opened in the 1960s as a satellite labor camp and has evolved to include secondary education, vocational training, and a reintegration program intended to reduce recidivism. Current CDOC CO I employees are encouraged to apply for transfers through the posted Central Transfer Process job announcement. Our current programming maintains a community-based labor service and has expanded to include secondary education, vocational training, and a reintegration program intended to reduce recidivism. Current CDOC CO I employees are encouraged to apply for transfers through the Central Transfer Process.

Position Description

The Correctional Officer I (CO I) position maintains the safety and security of CDOC prison facilities. CO I staff support the CDOC Mission, Vision and Values with integrity and commitment while preparing inmates for community reentry. They communicate professionally with inmates, families, coworkers, supervisors, managers and the public, and work as a cohesive team to manage a diverse inmate population.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

Positions may require additional hours and shifts to maintain 24 / 7 safety and security.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or GED certificate.

Conditions of Employment

Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license; disclose prior terminations or resignations; have no felony convictions as specified; successfully complete a background investigation; pass health screening; complete all CDOC Basic Training modules including Defensive Tactics; and other requirements listed in the posting.
