Maintenance Worker
The City of La Crosse is seeking to hire a full-time Maintenance Worker to become an essential member of the Parks Department. The La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department operates and maintains a 1,560-acre park system consisting of 47 park sites, 18 park shelters / pavilions, 12 athletic fields, 2 beaches, 5 boat landings, 2 marina / harbors, an 18-hole frisbee golf course, 27 miles of paved trails, and 45 miles of natural surface trails. In addition, the department has an 1,100-acre riparian marsh and 1,312 acres of public land across the bluffs. The individual in this position will work with a dedicated team of employees whose actions improve the lives of the citizens of La Crosse daily.
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of assigned maintenance equipment for maintenance of parks. Incumbents perform manual labor and operate equipment used in grounds maintenance such as trucks, tractors, chippers, chain saws, trimmers, mowers and hand and power tools. Responsible for operating pick-up plow for snow removal. Assists with excavating work sites, concrete construction projects, and tree removal. Fuels and cleans equipment and vehicles. Starting wage for this non-exempt position ranges between $23.37 to $26.77 per hour (80 hours bi-weekly) depending on candidate qualifications.
Requirements : High school diploma or equivalent, one to two years light equipment operating experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid driver's license required.
