Loss Control Specialist

Primary Function :

The Loss Control Specialist at Bettis Companies serves as a vital contributor to fostering a culture of safety and mitigating risk across all operational areas. This position is responsible for conducting thorough risk assessments, analyzing incidents, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards to safeguard personnel, property, and processes.

Additionally, the role oversees the management and coordination of all insurance and workers' compensation claims within the organization. By ensuring accurate claims processing, timely reporting, and effective communication with all relevant stakeholders, the Loss Control Specialist plays a critical role in protecting the company's financial interests.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple claims with professionalism and efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular job site inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with insurance carriers, auditors, and legal teams as needed during claims or investigations.
  • Coordinate the end-to-end management of workers' compensation, property damage, auto, and general liability claims, from initial notification through final resolution.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Bettis Companies, insurance carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), healthcare providers, legal counsel, and impacted employees.
  • Ensure timely reporting, thorough documentation, and compliance with federal, state, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintain organized and confidential records of claim files, including incident reports, medical documentation, and correspondence.
  • Monitor open claims for accuracy, progress, and resolution timelines; proactively follow up to drive closure and mitigate costs.
  • Collaborate with HR and Director of Safety to support return-to-work initiatives, modified duty programs, and post-incident analysis.
  • Prepare detailed claims reports, loss runs, and trend analyses to support strategic risk reduction efforts.
  • Assist in incident investigations and root cause analysis to identify preventive measures and ensure continual improvement in safety practices.
  • Provide guidance and training to supervisors and employees regarding claims protocols and best practices.

Working Conditions

  • May perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
  • Combination of office and field work in outdoor construction environments with occasional visits to medical facilities, or legal proceedings as needed.
  • Requires the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Risk Management, Occupational Health, or related field preferred.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in claims administration or loss control, preferably within the construction, industrial, or insurance sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT regulations and risk management practices.
  • In-depth understanding of insurance processes, workers' compensation laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a customer service-oriented approach.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and incident tracking software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
