Assistant Director / Outreach & Engagement

The Assistant Director of Outreach and Engagement will serve as the lead on essential efforts on behalf of the CAS (an International College Learning Center of Excellence), LSU, and EMSS to support and increase student learning and achievement of metrics associated with increasing student retention through case management, initiatives, and CAS programs and services. Primary responsibilities will include supervision, oversight of learning strategy sessions, case management, presentations, learning outreach initiatives, and content creation and management. The position will support the EMSS mission by serving as a catalyst for positive and sustainable changes to support students in becoming LSU graduates. The position will be committed to maintaining a culture of excellence, the academic mission of the university, and maximizing innovation and data-driven insights that exemplify the power of education. Supervises Senior Learning Specialists and Learning Strategies Coordinators.

35% Content and Program Development Oversight

  • Assist with development and coordination of AEA key intervention programs for students along with the Assistant Director of Interventions such as IMPACT, Progress Reports, Sophomores Rise, Promise Scholars, Pre Scholars Academy, etc.
  • Oversee the creation, implementation, and coordination of specially designed programs to help increase student learning.
  • Assists with CAS learning strategies content which includes :
  • Create relevant AEA content for CAS and other campus publications / media
  • Provide information for the CAS website pertaining to AEA
  • Work with campus partners to design and provide relevant learning strategies programs for special populations such as PSA, BIOS, SSS, HSS Res College, etc.

35% Administration and Supervision

  • Oversee and manage the CAS Learning Strategies Program
  • Coordinate staffing for CAS's involvement in retention initiatives such as First-year Student Success Teams
  • Assist with assessment and evaluation for AEA services and programs.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, and mentorship of assigned AEA staff and graduate assistants.
  • Monitor performance metrics of assigned CAS Learning Specialists with regards to actions tied to student retention effort.
  • Strategically assign and oversee additional projects and manage workload of learning strategies staff and graduate assistants.
  • Lead assigned internal CAS committees overseeing the work and outcomes.
  • Assist with the strategic planning and reporting for AEA programs and services.
  • Serve on relevant campus committees as appointed by the Director.
  • Perform administrative duties for the Academic Engagement and Achievement unit.
  • 25% Learning Strategies, Outreach, Presentations, and Case Management

  • Serve as a CAS Learning Specialist for the Center during times of high demand by providing academic and learning support to students in the form of individualized learning strategy consultations.
  • Track the academic progress / health of assigned students; monitor student participation in academic interventions, communicate with assigned populations at regular intervals.
  • Oversee coordination of CAS presentations on learning strategies and CAS services in classrooms and for organizations.
  • Serve as the lead contact for partnering with the campus to conduct activities to promote the Center and its programs and services.
  • Provide information and academic assistance to faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications :

    Bachelor's degree in education, higher education or related field and three years of experience in education or a related field.

    LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    Master's degree in counseling, education, higher education or related field.

    Experience in a college learning center setting.

    Experience with creating digital assets that are ADA accessible.

    Special Qualifications :

    As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and / or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
