District Manager - Times Union
Annual Base Pay : $51,928.50 (with growth potential)
Schedule : Overnight position (start ~12 : 30 AM, weekends included)

About the Role
Are you a night owl looking for a stable, well-paid role with strong benefits and room to grow? The Times Union is seeking a District Manager to oversee distribution operations and ensure exceptional service for our newspaper and partner publications across New York's Capital Region.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver excellent customer service to Times Union, New York Times, and other home delivery subscribers.
- Oversee distribution operations, including route management and warehouse logistics, ensuring all products are delivered on time.
- Administer and manage Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Independent Contractor proformas within assigned regions.
- Prepare, analyze, and execute contracts; lead negotiations and renegotiations with independent contractors and distributors.
- Monitor, measure, and audit contractor performance against Delivery Service Agreements (DSA) and quality metrics (DQI).
- Collaborate with the Distribution Director on contract extensions, renewals, and terminations.
- Partner with internal teams and commercial partners to ensure accuracy in billing, data management, and returns processing.
- Handle escalated service issues, reduce complaints, and maintain strong relationships with contractors and single-copy partners.
- Support cost containment and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and budget optimization.
- Step in to deliver routes when coverage is unavailable to maintain customer satisfaction.
- Promote and maintain safe work habits across all environments — warehouse, office, and field operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent; 1-3 years of relevant experience.Flexible schedule — must be available nights, weekends, and holidays.Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, NCS).Demonstrated skill in contract management, negotiation, and compliance.Analytical ability to track performance metrics and report at a departmental level.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — customer-focused and team-oriented.Proven ability to troubleshoot operational issues and implement effective solutions.Competent in conflict resolution and problem-solving under pressure.Comfortable working in varied environments (warehouse, office, and field).Physically able to lift, push, or pull up to 75 lbs.Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance with 100 / 300K liability limits required.Schedule & Compensation
Typical workweek : 37.5 hours, with two consecutive days off (subject to operational needs). Mandatory overtime as required (OT paid at 1.5x; holidays at 2.5x). Night and weekend premiums, plus :
