Freelance Social Media Content Creators Wanted : The Montclair Girl (part of The Local Girl Media Group)

Location : Montclair, New Jersey; Essex County, New Jersey (+ surrounding NJ areas)

Position Type : Freelance / Contract

Minimum Commitment : 2 assignments per month

About The Opportunity

We’re seeking passionate, locally-connected freelance social media content creators to join our team at The Local Girl. Our publications celebrate local culture, businesses, dining, wellness, politics, and community life.

What We’re Looking For

We need skilled people who are deeply embedded in their communities and who can create and provide authentic, engaging content about local happenings. You should be someone who knows the pulse of your area – from the best hidden gem restaurants to emerging local businesses, from community events to local political developments.

Essential Requirements

Local Expertise : You must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of local restaurants, wellness businesses, news, politics, and cultural happenings in your coverage area. We want writers who can speak authentically about their communities. Context is key. Montclair area – including Essex County towns + cities, and other nearby New Jersey gems, experiences, and businesses.

Professionalism : You are organized and pay attention to the details. Responsiveness is part of your everyday standards. You are able to follow the brand’s style guidelines and requirements with little to no guidance.

Content Output : Minimum commitment of 2 assignments per month for paid freelance positions.

Geographic Coverage : Specify which areas you can cover, including but not limited to Montclair / Bloomfield, greater Essex County, NJ.

Freelancer Status : Our company requires paid freelancers to have a status of a registered LLC or sole proprietor. We also welcome guest posts and submissions from writers not able to adhere to the timeframe / minimum content requirements monthly on a voluntary basis.

In addition to the job description you should :

Be comfortable in front of the camera

Have access to a car or easy transportation to the Essex County area

(other NJ areas a bonus!)

Have your own equipment / phone / mini mic to utilize for production

Be adherent to deadlines + client requests for time sensitive content captures

Communicate with client or business owner on-site and serve as brand ambassador for The Local Girl

Examples of content types :

Technical Skills

iPhone and video content capturing for social media

Storytelling and photography skills

Knowledge of social media trends + relevant pop culture references

Basic understand of Google Suite

Experience with project management and collaboration tools such as Asana
