ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented and certified Soils Lab Manager to join our Austinteam. In this role, you will primarily be responsible for the quality control and management of junior staff within the construction materials testing (CMT) laboratory to ensure the department's goals are met.
Responsibilities
- Manage activities and personnel related to soils laboratory testing with consideration of financial performance.
- Promote safety and safety culture and ensure proper PPE is used. Assist with company required safety training.
- Oversee and coordinate the schedules and work of soils laboratory technicians.
- Oversee soils laboratory tests, interpretation of test data, and preparing reports and / or summaries of test data. Perform calculations and data reduction of test results.
- Work with recruiting team to maintain appropriate staff levels with collaboration and approval by your supervisor.
- Provide assistance to Project Managers, the Department Manager, and assist with administrative duties as needed.
- Maintain and calibrate soils laboratory equipment. Manage calibration schedules and records.
- Maintain sufficient inventory and organization of required supplies and equipment.
- Participate in business development, marketing, and client development.
- Comply with corporate-level and office-specific Quality Management Systems (QMS) related policies and procedures; including adoption, implementation and enforcement.
- Obtain and maintain appropriate soils lab-testing related certifications by external certifying agencies for the defined scope; and also ensuring Soils Lab Technicians obtain the same.
- Obtain and maintain accreditation by an appropriate accrediting agencies in accordance with Corporate's Lab Accreditation Policy (such as by AASHTO resource, CMEC, A2LA, or equivalent), including participation and performance of required Proficiency Same Testing.
- Occasionally perform technician job duties, as needed

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. Associate's or bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred4+ years of related experienceBasic certifications per tech policy and necessary advanced certifications for work performedIf managing both soils and concrete labs, certifications for both laboratories requiredStrong oral & written communication skillsExperience performing soils laboratory tests on construction materials and the ability to evaluate the test results in terms of specification compliance.Strong knowledge of soils test methods, ASTM standards, and laboratory equipmentAbility to interpret data and properly record collected informationStrong leadership and decision making skillsAbility to work effectively with clients, peers and supervisors as well as independently. Ability to build a teamProficiency with computers and Microsoft Word and ExcelMust be able to occasionally lift 60-80 poundsKnowledge of ECS systems and procedures is a plusGood knowledge of laboratory accreditation requirements and QMS implementationIf driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is requiredAbout Us
