Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with 3 years of recent ICU experience, including neuro or CV, for a critical care night shift position at a Level 1 trauma center.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position is in the ICU of an acute care hospital
  • Level 1 trauma center with a 32-bed surgical ICU specializing in trauma neuro surgery and a 36-bed medical cardiac ICU plus 12-bed overflow unit
  • Patient populations include trauma, neuro-surgical, cardiac, sepsis, ARDS, MVAs, GSWs, status post-TPA, and various critical care cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 2 or 1 : 1 depending on acuity
  • RNs are required to titrate multiple critical drips including vasopressors, sedatives, and insulin
  • RNs must interpret their own EKG strips using GE monitors
  • Ventilator management with Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60s BiPAP, and Airvo
  • EMR system used is Cerner
  • Night shifts, 12 hours, self-scheduling with up to three weekends per month expected
  • Floating will be required between all ICUs and to telemetry units with 1 : 3–1 : 4 ratios
  • Mandatory navy scrub dress code
  • Auto-offer process based on clinical prescreening
  • Charge nurses are available and do not take assignments
  • No monitor techs; RNs are responsible for EKG interpretation
  • Respiratory therapists and hospitalists / intensivists are present in the ICU 24 / 7
  • First time travelers are accepted if minimum experience is met
  • Unit orientation is 1–2 days
  • Staff must cover holidays as assigned, typically only one holiday off per assignment
  • Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty equipment / devices will be conducted
  • No nurse aides are routinely available; support roles limited to sitters and unit secretaries
  • \n \n Requirements\n

  • Active RN license in AZ or Compact (NLC); pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience with at least 2 years in the ICU and experience in either neuro or CV
  • Ability to titrate a wide range of critical care drips
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (max 2 attempts) within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance
  • Successful completion of a pass / fail Sim Lab for sterile technique on Day 1 of orientation
  • Must provide a copy of driver’s license for consideration
  • Must submit two professional references : one supervisor from the past 12 months and a peer or supervisor from the past 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facilities within the past year
