Job Summary : Overview
The College of Engineering invites visionary, student-centered leaders to apply for the role of Associate Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA). This is an exceptional opportunity to make a lasting impact on thousands of future engineers and computer scientists. The College supports one of the largest undergraduate engineering student populations in the nation and is home to numerous programs that support the advancement and well-being of our students in the classroom, online, and across myriad experiential learning opportunities. It offers a diverse range of educational pathways that span nearly every traditional curriculum and specialized programs such as humanitarian engineering. Students from all backgrounds benefit from being able to seamlessly move back and forth from residential to online courses, enabling them to pursue extracurricular opportunities as well as better integrate work and life commitments. Numerous initiatives are also underway to further enrich the student experience, such as the ongoing AI initiative supported by NVIDIA and College alumni Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang.
Serving on the College’s Leadership Team, the ADSA reports to the Dean and provides strategic leadership for all aspects of student life, learning, support, and success. This includes the development, implementation, and assessment of initiatives that advance the University’s and the College’s strategic plans and enhance the educational experience for all engineering students—from recruitment through graduation and into their professional lives. The position will play a central role in shaping the College’s 2026-2030 strategic plan for which development will start in the upcoming months. The Office of the ADSA is responsible for an organization comprising an annual budget of ~$6M+ with 56 current full-time employees.

This position is a 12-month appointment, 0.9 FTE (negotiable), funded through the College, and is open to candidates who are able to hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (with tenure), Associate Professor of Teaching or Professor of Teaching, and Senior Instructor I or Senior Instructor II in the College of Engineering. Additional key qualifications include outstanding communication skills, student engagement skills, staff management skills, constituent consultation skills with a focus on the boards that advise departments and the College, and crisis response skills.
This appointment serves at the pleasure of the Dean. The expectation is that this is a five-year term, reviewed annually.
