The Team
Black & Veatch's Technology, Commercial & Industrial is a specialized group focusing on data centers and related infrastructure. You will join a team delivering Data Centers facility planning, design, engineering, construction, technology, and energy services to clients.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will have the opportunity to :
- Lead the delivery of design-only, design-build, and construction-only projects in Electrical Engineering deliverables for Data Centers projects.
- Provide subject matter expertise in Data Center design.
- Train and develop early career and / or inexperienced professionals.
- Collaborate with a team of engineers experienced in Data Center projects.
- Build client relationships to understand needs and drivers and engage in client-facing / business development activities.
- Support business development, including developing scope-of-work, level-of-effort, and site visits to understand the scope of the pursuit.
- Continuously develop technical expertise.
Role supports projects primarily for North America. The ideal candidate will be located or willing to relocate to Overland Park, KS or regional offices in Canonsburg, PA; Charlotte, NC; Cary, NC; Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX; Phoenix, AZ.
Key Responsibilities
Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, codes and BV policies. Maintain or develop engineering standards and guides. Provide technical guidance to others.Ensure compliance with BV quality program, establish related processes, and promote a culture of quality. Support continuous improvement, change management and risk management.Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects. Conduct research and make recommendations for equipment / materials; manage data for engineering work.Prepare complex calculations; manage budgets, schedules, and quality. Develop advanced engineering solutions and oversee task delegation to lower-level staff.Coordinate with internal / external team members on complex projects; define project schedules for single or multiple disciplines.Identify client interests and drivers and communicate them to the project team; develop approaches to address these in the work.Identify future client needs and support business development or pursuit activities.Serve as a technical specialist in a broad or specialized field; apply advanced engineering concepts to complex problems; may support chief engineers or senior management.Mentor lower and mid-level professionals and contribute to career development and succession planning.Management Responsibilities
Supervise work of others; responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of subordinates.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience; recognized program acceptable in home country or country of practice.Minimum of 11 years related work experience.Active engineering registration / licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements where applicable; U.S. Professional Engineer License supported where necessary.Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.Project Lead experience in Data Center designs.Understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency; knowledge of hyper-scale, edge, and colocation data centers.Proficiency in 3D modeling and managing complex Revit families; familiarity with BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit worksets, view templates and project phasing.Knowledge of Data Center tier rating systems.Strong client-facing communication; ability to lead projects including schedules, budgets, and staffing.Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment; self-motivated to deliver results; attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.Support business development with scope-of-work, LOE, and site visits.Strong leadership skills to train and develop early career professionals.Certifications
Active engineering registration or licensure for BV projects in applicable countries; U.S. Professional Engineer License where required.Work Environment / Physical Demands
